Set-theory Calculator (There’s an app for that)

Having problems finding the prime form of that hexachord? There’s an app for that.

This neat app for iPod, iPhone, and iPad has all the index information that can be found at the back of Joseph N. Straus’s textbook Introduction to Post-Tonal Theory. By simple selecting the desired pitches, the app will generate the pitch-class set’s properties. Organized by the pitch-class set’s normal form, prime form, Forte name, Z-mate, interval class, and interval class vector.

This is a great tool, but be careful. This is app is full of bugs, and doesn’t always provide the correct information. Download it and have fun, it’s free!
